Ophthalmologists are primarily involved in the medical assessment, diagnosis and management of disorders affecting vision particularly:-
inflammatory disorders affecting vision
vascular disorders affecting vision
neurological disorders affecting vision
Genetic disorders affecting vision
Retina specific disorders affecting vision
Visual rehabilitation
They carry out various ophthalmic procedures particularly lasik therapy for diabetic retinotherapy and local injection therapy for age related macular degeneration.Ophthalmologists are physicians that have specialized in vision care , allowing them to handle everything from simple medical exams to surgical needs. They handle basic eye care situations including eye exams, providing prescriptions for eye wear and diagnosis and testing for visual disorders. They handle issues such as cataracts, corneal diseases, retinal detachment and many surgical procedures. Their medical knowledge of the entire body also gives them additional skills in diagnosis and treatment of diseases that originate in another place, but affects vision. They see patients of all ages and a wide range of conditions. Those who have specialties usually set up their own clinics and see only patients with conditions needing an expert in that areas.
