Medicine is one of the most prestigious and rewarding career for those interested in science and interested in the physical well being of people. The basic or degree level qualification for a medical profession is MBBS which is of 5.5 years duration.
The physician diagnose and treat diseases and injuries and perform an important function in looking after the well-being of the community. Thorough knowledge of diseases and their symptoms are required for diagnosis and treatment. Medical doctors first compile a clinical history of the patient before they make a diagnosis. They use several techniques and apparatus in their examination in order to form an image of the disease or injury. It is crucial that all factors are taken into consideration before a diagnosis is made. Treatment can be medical, surgical and therapeutic. They keep the patient under close supervision during the course of treatment , conduct regular check ups and examine the patient's physical status using clinical skills. They recommend suitable treatment to the patient which may involve recommendations on life style changes, prescribing medicines or giving medication, vaccinating against infections or contagious diseases or in the case of injuries or otherwise closing wounds, removing foreign bodies or setting broken limbs. Their work also involves counseling patient on diet, exercise , avoidance of certain habits such a smoking and consumption of alcohol and overall health maintenance. Specific nature of work depends upon the specialization areas
