An airline Pilot has a very challenging job to perform. His primary job is to make sure that the aircraft, passengers, crew and his cargo reach the destination safely and securely. To do this he has to make sure that his aircraft is fully serviceable and this is done by coordinating with the maintenance, then he has to make sure the aircraft is secure, this is done by coordinating with security and then he has to ensure that his crew is briefed

. To ensure that the entire flight is smooth he has to coordinate with various agencies including the ait traffic control, apron control and flight planners. On top of all this he has to keep abreast of all the orders and instructions issued for the day, the traffic patterns, the weather patterns, the conditions in the area he is flying so that at the end of the flight the task is completed in an economical manner. The pilot also has the responsibility to ensure his own ability is kept in top shape, his skills are always up,his licenses are vvalid, his medical is current and valid and that he is current in all procedures an in handling all emergency situations. His is a long list of things which he has to take care. He has to be a leader, a manager, a team member and be able to manage his resources in the best way. Time management is a great skill that he needs to have. The airline pilot also has to the role of being able to understand the company policy, the company requirements, the need to be economical and safe. He must understand the vision of his company, the mission that he is required to take and the final goal. His duties involve leadership, coordination, team b uilding, stress management, emotional intelligence to handle situations in any environment and also a customer centric approach. His role also involves being always vigilant in the air, monitoring the air situation, taking appropriate decisions and have the courage to modify or change any decision in the interest of safety. An airline pilot carries a heavy responsibility on his shoulders as the life of hundreds of passengers depend upon him, upon his professionalism and on his competence. Finally one can say that the role of an airline pilot is to be skilled, proficient, medically fit, fresh and have courage to take decisions, be a leader to his team with the single purpose to ensure that his cargo, passengers, crew and aircraft reach the destination safely.
