The work and responsibilities of civil engineers depends upon their area of specialization.

AREA OF SPECIALIZATION & WORK RESPONSIBILITIES

STRUCTURAL ENGINEERS- are responsile for designing strctures that can suppirt their own weight and the loads they carry and that resist wind, temperature, earthquake and many other forces. bridges, buildings, offshore structures, space platforms, amusement park rides and many other kinds of projects are included within this existing discipline. They develop the appropriate combination of steel, concrete, timber , plastic and new exotic materials. They do planning and design ,as well as visit the project site yo make sure the work is done properly.

ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERS- translate physical, chemical and biological processes into systems to destroy toxic substances, remove pollutants from water, reduce hazardous solid waste volumes, eliminate contaminates from the air and develop groundwater supplies. In this field they may be called upon to resolve issues of providing safe drinking water, cleaning up sites contaminated with hazardous materials, disposing of wsaterwater and managing solid wastes.

GEOTECHNICAL- engineers are responsible for developing projects below ground such as tunnels, foundations and offshore platforms.

WATER RESOURCES- engineers deals with issues concerning the quality and quantity of water. They are mainly involved in the designing, construction or maintenance of hydroelectric power facilities, canals, dams, pipelines, pumping stations, locks or seaport facilities.

TRANSPORTATION- engineers are responsible for upgrading our transportation capability by improving traffic control and mass transit systems and by introducing high-speed trains,people movers and other transportation methods.

CONSTRUCTION- Using their technical and management expertise ,construction enginers are responsible for turning designs into reality-on time and within budget.

URBAN PLANNING- Analyzing a variety of information , they are responsible for determing areas for industrial and residential growth.

MATERIAL ENGIMEERING- Material engineers usually deals with materials such as cement, concrete additives, metals and alloys , polymers and paints.

EARTHQAUKE ENGINEERING- They perform research to analyze the impact of earthqauke on diffrent types of edifices and implement quake resistant measures.
