The job in jewellery industry involves the identification and testing of jewellry and gemstones and then casting and molding jewellery. Some of the major tasks performed by jewellerey designers are desigbing, manufacturing and marketin . The designer is repsonsible for preparing sketches after consulting with the customer or manufacturing team. The designer prepares detailed drawings, astructured model , computer stimulations and a full scale prototype. The people involved in the manufacturing process are involved in preparing a design model by shaping the metal or by carving wax and soldering the individual parts together. After carving wax or other general processes finsishing works such as setting stones or gems, polishing, engraving etc are done. Nowadays CAD softwares are used in the manufacturing units to facilitate produce design to avoid mistakes during the designing process. After completing the model design large scale production process using computer adided manufacturing process starts. As a jewellery designer one can find employment in variours jewellery desiggn and manufacturuing units, export houses and in well known jewellery brand names such as Tanishq, D-damas, Nakshatra etc. A person after gaining some experience can opt for setting up his own design studio and workshop or can work as a freelance designer.

Below is the list of the main work and responsibilities of a jewellery designers that they usually perform during their work:


1. The jewellery designers have to get involved with the supply of the raw material and therefore need to stay in touch of the suppliers. They have to request the raw material and make sure that the right material is reaching the organization. They need to make sure that they are finding the right suppliers, negotiating with them for the best deals and getting the best of the material for the jewellery. They have to have the understanding of the material in order to do that.

2. They have to work on the design part of the jewellery. This is usually done in the paper first after which it is approved by the clients. After getting the approvals they design the same in three dimensional model in the computer aided design software and then finalize the real model for the jewellery. This process is done very carefully and slowly as there are many factors that need to be considered and also the specifications have to be accurately mentioned so that later it doesn't cause any problem in the design process.

3. The designers have to coordinate with the manufacturing team. First of all they need to explain the manufacturing team about the various aspects of the design and what are the important considerations in a particular design. Also they have to give them the list of exact specifications required for the each part of the jewellery. Therefore they need to coordinate well.

4. During the production process the jewellery designers need to coordinate with the craftsmen and the workers in each process so that the quality of the jewellery doesn't get affected and at the same time the specifications are being met as per the prescribed values. If there comes any problem in the production they have to figure out the solution or alter the design. Once the production is done, they also work with the sales and marketing teams.
