The aim of veterinary education is to produce veterinarians capable of using their skills to improve association of humans and animals by making the later free from their sufferings and disease.




Veterinary doctors are required for extension programs i.e. they educate and encourage livestock farmers to build up the quality of their animal stock . They also advise on animal farm management and animal health problems.




Vets play an important role in captive breeding of wild animals, particularly those feared to be getting extinct.



Veterinarian s employed by the dairy sector work at ensuring increasing yields in milk production and also the health and breeding of dairy cattle.



Veterinarian surgeons attached to veterinary hospitals in cities may find themselves handling mainly domestic pets. But the government postings could also be in rural areas where responsibilities extend to cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, horses etc.



Veterinarians are employed in the pharmaceutical companies where they handle the production of vaccines or the development of animal feeds and fertilizers.

The veterinarian is a person who acts as doctor for animals and on the other hand, he is a teacher, who is involved in teaching. The various work and responsibilities of a veterinarian are as follows:

The veterinarian work in governmental sector as well as in private organization.



The basic and fundamental job of a veterinarian doctor is to cure the suffering animals, he treats the animal in his clinic or has also visit the fields. During the treatment processes he also observes that which treatment is effectively working on an animal. This data he uses for further studies and he also submits reports about his findings. The veterinarian appointed in rural areas are responsible to cure the diseases of animals.



As a teacher, the veterinarian work in colleges, university or research institute. Here the veterinarian teaches the graduates, post graduates and doctoral degree students. He prepares notes related to his subject and deliver in the class using multimedia. This he do to make his students to easily understand the topics.







Besides teaching the veterinarian also involved in research. Here he guides the post graduate students and doctoral degree students for their research project. He also supervises the research projects funded by funding agencies. In these research projects he inducts senior research fellow or junior research fellow to carry out the work. The data generated during research program is published in the form of research papers in the journals of international repute. He also writes the reports of research project and submit periodically to the funding agencies.



To update himself about the subject, the veterinarian also read research journals and participate in national as well as international conferences, symposium, workshops. The latest in veterinary field are discussed in such gatherings. These meetings act as a platform for a veterinarian to interact with persons coming from all over the globe. This also gives an opportunity to him to make research collaborations to boost the quality research programs.



The veterinarian also work in Army, here they carry out research work and look after the animals of army such as dogs, mules, horses, cattle. They work in laboratory and also in adverse field conditions.



The veterinarian also work in private organizations, which are involved in vaccine, animal feeds or drug preparations.



In university or research institutes, the senior veterinarian also work on administrative and management positions.
