Below is the list of the main work and responsibilities of a writer:

  • Select the subject matter as per the publishers or agency's choice or in some cases writer's own choice.
  • Doing the research required for that particular subject matter and gather the important information. They may have to work with other researchers or analysts in order to get that information.
  • Sometimes they also have to conduct the interviews in order to write a story.
  • They need to develop the technical aspects of the writing. Depending upon which literary devices they are going to use in their writing, they plan the narrative.
  • Once the factual content has been verified they write the draft and then the final story by editing the draft. Sometimes they have to edit it multiple times.
  • They coordinate with the editing team to get the content finalized. If any change is required, they have to make that.
  • They work with sharp deadlines and therefore have to be careful about the time constraint.
  • Since most writers are self employed. They have to manage the time as per their convenience while ensuring the deadlines.
