The Textile Industry in India:
The Indian Textile Industry boasts of having an overwhelming presence in the economy of the country. The industry plays pivotal role through its contribution to industrial output, employment generation, and export earnings of the country. Currently, it contributes about 14% to industrial production, 4% to the GDP, and 17% to the country's export earnings. Notably, it provides employment to over 35 million people. For the growth of the industry, the Indian Ministry of Textiles believes that there is strong need to focus on aspects like product development, CAD to develop designing capabilities, investment in trend forecasting, to enable growth of industry.

The growth opportunities exists in areas including medical textile, construction textile, packaging textiles, baby diapers, home textiles, blankets, bed, toilet and kitchen linen, curtains, drapes, interior blinds, furnishing articles, sacks and bags, tarpaulin, sail, tent and camping goods.


Roles and Responsibilities:
- Textile engineers provide technical suggestions and recommendations to designing, marketing, and purchasing and production staff.
- They are responsible for creating products in compliance with the given specifications.
- They need to learn latest trends and requirements of people.
- They are involved in textile harvesting, which includes production and processing.
- They develop samples, amend designs, evaluate, identify and choose fabrics from suppliers.
- One of the important role is they make sure that the final product meets pre-decided specifications in terms of color security and durability.
