As a civil engineer , one can start private practice as a consultant or work with muncipalities, government constructions, regulatory agencies , transportation authorities, architects or urban planners. Others can seek employment in construction or manufacturing companies. As a civil engineer , one can also work for organizations like ONGC, railways and various departments of state and central Government. Employment opportunities exist in the gOvernment sector including the railways, departmnts of irrigation, public works, roads, airports, harbours, muncipal corporation, telecommunication department etc. Civil engineer can also work as a commissoned officer in the defense sevices, research organizations and laboratories. Those who are down to earth people may join various NGOs working in water shade management and other areas. Civil engineering graduates can also go in for research and take up teaching. They also can join the lucrative Indian ENgineering Services conducted by Union Public Service Commssion.
