Professional courses in interior designing and decoration are offered at the various state polytechnics for which the minimum eligibility is usually class 12 or equivalent but may also be class 10. The duration of the course could vary between two to four years. Few universities offer three/ four years bachelor's degree programmes to students completing class 12 . In most cases , one needs to qualify an aptitude test before getting admission. The aptitude test by CEPT Ahmedabad assess aspirant's imagination, lateral thinking, exposure to basic design and interior, sensitivity to color, 3D form, visual order, craft skills , visual perception and logic. Interior designers may work with architectural firms, with builders , developers or in design consultancy firms. The government, defense services and the public sector are also employers. Remuneration with vary with experience , volume of business , nature of employing organisation and the state of the economy at any point of time. Interior designers who constantly update their knowledge of techniques and materials and emerging trends and tastes are always able to stay on top.
