A journalist may work a local newspaper, a national daily , a glossy magazine, a professional journal, a trade paper , or in radio or television. A journalist may hold afield job as a reporter or correspondent or a desk job as a sub editor , feature writer or departmental / section editor. Whatever be the route of entry into journalism , the prospects are good provided one has the personal attributes for the profession and control of language and subject so that what he or she writes is accurate, readable and topical too. Freelance journalist can make high earnings if they are prolific and enjoy wide readership



Training in journalism is available at many universities in the country and also at many autonomous institutes specializing in media studies. Some of the media houses have set up their own schools of journalism. Most of the courses in journalism are post graduate diploma or degree course is of one to two years duration for which graduates are eligible.Admission is usually on the basis of an entrance test which evaluates power of expression, proficiency in language, general awareness , analytical and verbal reasoning skills and overall communication skills. Journalism is a highly competitive profession and only the proficient and tough can play a successful inning.
