Marketing management was long ago sticked only to sale of one company's products. It was stereotyped to think as such and the same misconception continues even in the present times. But people who has had some industrial experience in marketing for over a period of years, or for someone who have had some educational experience in Marketing from top tier premium business schools, they would tell you whats all on offer with marketing management other than the typical sales job that we generally think of.

Lucrative jobs for a marketing professional:
1. Sales and business development:
You can start working from a business development role in the beginning. Some an MBA in marketing is usually not necessary for this kind of role. This job profile will offer you with sound grounds into the marketing field and especially into sales and business development. This is where you will learn about creating sales, closing deals, customer service, delivery skills, client relationship management and many more.

2. Market analyst/ market researcher:
Whether or not you have the MBA in Marketing, you can still do this job profile - Market analyst or a market researcher. This role will enable you as an industry expert in the areas you market your product. this way you will get to understand your products and your competitors products. You will offer solutions to your company on improving your own products and as well being off beat from the competitors products.

3. Product development/ product consultant:
Next to the market researcher, comes the product development and further up product consultant. Once the solutions to improvise your product are offered by the market analyst, the product developers and consultants sit together to improvise the current product. It could be remodeling or developing the existing product or coming up with a new product as well.
Until the last two roles, an MBA is really not required but the role of having a formal marketing management qualification will be effective from this level. So it is important to have done the MBA in marketing to be able to cope up with this kind of role.

4. Brand management:
Brand management is something very much important in the consumer goods industry. Though your product is worth the price and meets its customer's needs, how are you going to stand stable in the market for all your life? This is where brand management comes into play. New brand strategies are designed and employed now and then for your company's products and it is done by a brand management consultant.

5. Marketing strategy/ marketing management consultant:
This is almost a lead role in the area of marketing, and in fact one of the top tier roles. It is generally known as strategic consulting role and in this you offer solutions as a consultant to your clients on marketing their products. As a consultant you design strategies, develop, and implement them for your clients.

Criteria to enter the marketing profession:
An MBA/ PGDM in Marketing is the only right option for someone who would like to embark on a career in marketing. There are many business schools in India that offers this course and the top ones include
IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, ISB Hyderabad, IIM Calcutta, IIT Kharagpur Vinod Gupta school of management, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay Shailesh Mehta school of management, IIM Indore, IIM Lucknow, SP Jain institute of management, FMS Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad, XLRI and Symbiosis Pune. These are the best ones from India and especially IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and ISB Hyderabad are well known for marketing management in India.

To study the course you should qualify CAT exam to be able to join one of the IIM's or the CAT/ GATE for the IIT's or the GRE/ GMAT for ISB Hyderabad and XAT exam for XLRI. Rest all the other schools will usually admit students with a CAT score or they sometimes administers their own test.

I hope this helps. Good luck.
