Ayurvedic treatments are person specific rather than disorder specific. The age of patient, the climate in which he lives, his cultural and social surroundings and his bodily constitution are taken into account before prognosis. Touch , inspection and interrogation are the main tools of diagnosis. Then the physician emphasizes a regimen of diet with the use of herbal medicines. Herbs are used to eliminate excesses and strengthen deficiencies. Their primary function is to stimulate particular organic functions. Thus ayurvedaaims to solve many health problems;only through the adjustment of diet, so there are no side effects.Ayurveda practioners follow a non-invasive cure procedure. They examine patients by cross examination, vision, pulse rate etc. Ayurvedic practionersgenerally begin by taking a comprehensive personal and medical history to determine the patient;s physical and spiritualtype and then prescribe treatment accordingly.

Practionerscan find employment as medical officer/doctor at government and private ayurvedic hospitals, charitable institutions, medical colleges and training institutes. Many may take up private practice open their own retail shop of ayurvedicmedicines. They can also find employment as supervisors in Panch Karma. Ayurvedic doctors can work in industries engaged in ayurvedic preparations. He can also work as professor in ayurvedic colleges or do research.

Hello

Thank you for choosing Mera career guide and writing to us. A professional ayurvedic practitioner is a physician, who holds a minimum BAMS medicine practitioner degree. This degree is the basic qualification to become an ayurvedic practitioner or a physician. Ayurvedic practitioner is a lucrative position but that goes fail to spark eyes of many students at school level. Lots of students do not recognise the importance and scope of this degree and blindly flood to the main stream of English medicine, MBBS.

As an ayurvedic physician you can pursue the following career:
  • General practitioner: As a general ayurvedic practitioner you can either work at hospitals, your own private clinic as a attending doctor at some other private clinic. You will not perform surgery but will offer practices or advices for people with disorders or physical ailments.
  • General surgeon/ physician: As a general physician you will be initially trained under a specialist who perform surgery at an advanced level. After a period of training for a minimum of one year or two, you can do surgeries for patients and this is more often done only at hospitals under strict clinical trials.
  • Ayurvedic consultant: You can also work as an ayurvedic consultant either having your own consulting clinic or working as a freelancer. This way you will attend to those queries that come to you. As a consultant you will attend the problems and prescribe either your own manufactured medicines or somebody's patent medicines.
  • Ayurvedic pharmacist: As an ayurvedic pharmacist you can work at pharmaceutical companies that manufacture beauty products like ayurvedic skin care and ayurvedic hair oil. You will know the concentration and mixing proportions as a pharmacist and will be at the counter to advice usage or application methods of ayurvedic medicines.
  • Education sector: You can also become a professor if you hold a Masters like the MD or a PhD in specialist ayurvedic practice. With this qualification you are eligible to work as a professor at colleges.
  • Spa and health centres: You can also engage with private spa and health centres to advice on treatments required as per medical or non medical conditions. You could also be employable at spa centres that run for only luxury and rejuvenation.
  • Private clinical research: You can also work at private clinics that invents medicines and hold the royalty while simultaneously selling it to pharma companies or other private laboratories.

Hope this helps.
