The cost accountant helps to diagnose the areas of uneconomic activities through cost and management information systems. He assists in strategic management decision in respect of economic activities of an organization.The services of the cost accountant are vital to the sound and profitable operations of all types of business enterprises.



A cost accountant is generally involved in collection, compilation and analysis of financial information/ reports, assessing the feasibility of projects, designing and implementing effective cost control and management and performing audit work. ICWA passed candidates can hold top management positions as managing director, finance director , financial controller, accountant, cost controller and chief internal auditor. The institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India is the only recognized statuary professional organization and licensing body in India specializing exclusively in cost and management accountancy.




An aspiring cost accountant must have good numerical ability and an analytical mind to interpret facts and figures. Logical and methodical approach in work is required and an ability to interact and express clearly to the clients and customers is preferred.
