Dear friend, the necessary skills required for a fresher to get a decent job as Fishery scientist is to learn all all the related subjects, starting from graduation to doctoral degree. Let me make one thing very clear, the fishery scientist means a person holding a degree of masters science or holding a doctoral degree. The reason being is the entry point of fishery scientist is very competitive and to compete and get a job, the doctoral degree is must.

As a graduate student, you have learned the basics of fishery science. But as a masters degree student, you have to learn the practical aspects of your degree. The reason is, you can learn and cram the theory portion, but at home you cannot do the practicals. Let me explain you with and example, you have seen many times a person is fixing the puncture of your car or bike Tyre. But if you wish to fix it, you cannot do it, reason, you have not practiced it. As a fishery scientist or student, you are supposed to visit various water bodies, you have to identify the fish by seeing its morphology. The more you observe the different fishes, more you learn and understand about the fishes. It means you need more practical experience to learn about fishes. If you know your subject well, you can get a job of your choice. As a fishery scientist fresher, again you have to become a very good observer, and a critical analyzer.

During your masters degree and doctoral degree program, please try to attend the conferences, workshops, symposium and trainings. This will give you an exposure about the direction of your subject. Moreover, you will get an opportunity to interact with various people across the globe at a common plat form.

Now on wards, you can make your own contact with scientist of your interest. You can make collaboration with person of your choice of subject. The trainings will sharpen your technical skills. You will learn more about latest technologies and also about new instruments related to your subject.

Again, try to visit laboratories of your friends, your seniors, try to understand what research they are doing, on what type of instrument they take their experimental observations. Just keep yourself updated with latest information of your field. try to publish research papers in your field.
