Veterinary science is the science of diagnosing, treating and curing the various types of diseases in animals and birds. A veterinarian main task is to look after the health and welfare of animals. Besides, giving treatment , vets perform surgery, prevent spreading of diseases in animals by administering timely vaccination and giving information. Their work also involves animal husbandry-animal breed improvement by selection breeding , artificial insemination and animlal research in order to control spread diseases transmitted through animals.

To be a good veternarian one should have genuine love and compassion for animals. He /she must be able to read the signs fro animal behaviour and diagnose the disease. As the animals themselves cannot descrive the problems, vets have to diagnose it skillfully. Working with huge animals requires physical stamina and quick body reflexes to tackle the moody behaviour and should be able to instinctively gauge the animal condition. He needs to be patient and sensitive and should have powers of observation, self reliance and adaptibility.
