Meteorology has been one of the demanding field nowadays. Due to the industrialization and development it has led to the increase in pollution in the environment leading to Global Warming and Deforestation.There has been a tremendous importance for Meteorologists. Meteorologists are also known as atmospheric scientists as they study the atmosphere and its characteristics. Therefore,many government and private meteorological organisations are hiring skilled meteorologists,who can provide near to accuracy predictions regarding the climatic conditions.
After pursuing course in Meteorology one can specialist in the fields such as weather forecasting,aviation meteorology,agricultural meteorology,hydrometry,nuclear meteorology and maritime meteorology. Currently Meteorological department,environment regulatory bodies and research institutes are hiring meteorologists.
One can take up a job in various meteorological departments like Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science; Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology; Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Science;Council of Scientific and Industrial Research; Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Indian Space Research Organisation; These offers placements as research scholars and scientists.
While the Indian Meteorological Department(IMD) recruits students at Grade II level through the Union Public Service Commission(UPSC). Minimum qualification required is M.Sc- Physics/maths or in applied Physics or Maths or Computer Applications.B.tech,Engineering / Computer Science, M.Sc Electronic or B.tech Electronics. Even students of B.Sc are recruited in the IMD through the applications forwarded by the respective employment exchange. candidates who have done their Masters Meteorology or Atmospheric Sciences or Geo-Physics or Meteorology as one of the subjects can also apply to IMD.
Meteorology Careers can also be pursued abroad like USA- national Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration,National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the department of Agriculture and Energy are the major employers. In UK Royal Meteorological Society. There is increasing employment opportunities for meteorologists in industry,private consulting firms, and research organisations. Many television stations employ professional meteorologists tether than reporters to present weather information to their viewers.
