I am compiling the list of things that you as an Electronics and Telecom Engineer learn, will be helpful in the long terms.

1. Learn to use the latest software and get your expertise on them. They can be related to your own field - electronics and telecom or they can be from some other field such as mathematics or analytics but will be helpful to you in terms of your work profile.

2. Learn time management. Going forward this will be one of the most important skill that you would have learnt. Time management allows you to effectively make use of the time and resources and therefore you are far more productive. You should make a time table and practice it on regular basis.

3. Do not restrict your knowledge to your academic books but also learn from outside. Internet has created a revolution in learning. There is no limit to which you can learn. You can watch the tutorials in youtube and understand the concepts there or you can follow education blogs or you can also learn few courses on electronics or telecom via distant learning. Make good use of your time.

4. You should learn how to work in a team and how to deal with the people. This is an important part of your work life and you cannot ignore this. Make sure that you participate in various team events and learn from other team members. You should be able to take work from your peers and get along with them comfortably. Have patience, this may take quite a while but once learnt you will cherish it forever.

5. Work on the small projects in your field right from the beginning. The electronics and telecom field is all about the project works and therefore you will have to be able to cope up with the project scenario which is usually different from your text books. These involve a number of real life factors that cannot be taught by your text books. Work on them.
