I am very glad to answer this question. Being a PhD in psychology, I helped a lot of psychology students achieve mile stones in their research. As you already know, psychology is study of human behavior. Studying human behavior in different scenarios is termed applied psychology. General psychology is the basic which studies human behavior broadly.

Applied psychology includes clinical psychology, educational psychology, organizational psychology, forensic psychology, marketing psychology, consumer psychology, health psychology, counseling psychology, military psychology, para psychology etc. Each one of these applied psychology branches concentrte on those applied field. Application of general sychology basics on applied field. Every applied field requires its own expertise. Thereforeeach becomes important in its own aspect.

I shall try to highlight some basic skills which any psychologist needs in long run for his or her success.

1. Patience
2. An interest in continuing education because psychology, like any other science, always develops and there is always new knowledge.
4. Compassion
5. Emotional stability
6. Ethics
7. Inter personal skills
8. Knowledge of laws and regulations
9. Open mindedness
10. Trust worthiness
11. Creativity : As every science field, psychology needed to be researched thoroughly to formulate new theories. Different from other sciences, human mind is not a tangible thing and therefore, researcher required to possess creativity to imagine the unimaginable.

As I had already told you, different skills are required for different applied psychology field.
