There are a number of things that if a textile engineer learns will be of great help in the long terms. Below is the list of the important things that one should learn as a textile engineer that can be helpful for them:


1. The textile engineers spend a lot of time to work on their design skills. This is an essential part of their work and they have to be really good at it. They need to improve their creativity and think out of the box solutions so that they can provide the best solution to their clients. Their work is often judged by the creativity that they have shown and therefore this is an important part of it.

2. They need to spend a lot of time in understanding the various industrial and manufacturing processes that they are going to work on, as a textile engineer. They have to have the clear understanding of each and every aspect of these processes. Also they need to learn on working with various machines and equipment so that they can be comfortable while operating them during the project settings.

3. The interpersonal skills are really important for the role of a textile engineer. They have to coordinate with a number of people as to provide their contribution. They usually work in the team settings and therefore it requires them to work along with other people. Thus they need to learn how to get along with other people and work with them to achieve a common objective. The team work dictates the real results of the project and is very crucial in determining its success.

4. The textile engineers have to work on their communication skills. They have to pass on the necessary communications to several other professionals including the senior management people, clients and therefore they need to connect to them nicely so that the communications can be made effectively. The communication skills also help them to mark good impression on their clients as well as their coworkers and therefore are really important so that they can achieve things far beyond their expectations.

The Textile Industry in India:
The Indian Textile industry boasts of having an overwhelming presence in the economy of the country. The industry plays pivotal role through its contribution to industrial output, employment generation, and export earning of the country. Currently, it contributes about 14% to industrial production, 4% to the GDP, and 17% to the country's export earnings. Notably, it provides employment to over 35 million people. And with the decantralization of power loom / hosiery and knitting sectors, and new techniques to produce a avariety of products to suit different market sections, there is a huge demand for trained professionals in the textile and apparel industry.

For the growth of the industry, the Indian ministry of Textiles belives that there is a strong need to focus on apscts like product development, CAD to develop designing capabilities, investment in trend forecasting to enable growth of the industry.

How do i get there?
One can enterthe field after doing Diploma or Degree level programs in textile and apparel or related subjects ike merchandising, fashion designing, textile retailing, product management and the like.

Students need to understand the industry from the scratch and then they can jump on to the spacialized levels. The Master's programs are specially designed to prepare students to meet the challenges of design-driven industries through modules inmanufacturing, merchandising, wholesaling and retailing. Students learn aspects like innovative proble solving, product development, and managerial strategies that incorporate the application of new technologies.

Career Opportunities:
Graduates can have opportunities in production development and management, retail mangement, apparel designing, visual merchandising, technical designing, fashion writing and editing, quality control, museum collection management, theatrical costuming and many more.

Required skills and Personal qaulities:
Textile/ clothing designer need to have following things which will help them in long run:
1. To be creative
2. An eye for colour, texture and pattern
3. The ability to visualize things in theree dimesions
4. Technical skills in areas such as pattern cutting, grading and garment construction
5. To be able to draw, either by hand or on the computer
6. Good communications skills to expalin their ideas clearly and persuasively.
7. The ability to meet deadlines and work within a budget.
8. Business skills and commercial awareness, particularly if they are self-employed
9. Good negotiation skills when selling their own designs
10. To keep ahead of trends in colour, fabric and style
11. Strong organizational skills.
