Hi, The basic eligibility for undergraduate courses in 10 + 2 passed (with 50% and above) in any discipline. There are some institutes/universities that take a common Entrance Examination for all their Bachelor courses. In case of Postgraduate courses however, the aspirants often have a written test followed by group discussion and personal interview for selection in good institutes offering postgraduate degree and diploma courses in Journalism.

While in case of several UG courses, the admission can be direct on basis of class 12th marks, for institutes offering PG courses in advertising, there are usually domain specific entrance examinations. The main entrance examinations for Journalism courses are:

  • SET - Symbiosis Entrance Test for UG courses at SIMC - Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication
  • Entrance test by IP University- Delhi for 3 year BJMC (Bachelors in Journalism & Mass Communication) course
  • IIMC (Indian Institute of Mass Communication) entrance examination for PG Diploma in Advertising & Public Relations

Training in journalism is available at many universities in the country and also at many autonomous institutes specializing in media stuidies. Some of the media houses have set up their own schools of journalism. Most of the courses in journalism are post graduate diploma or degree courses of one to two years' duration, for which graduates are eligible. Admission is usually on the basis of an entrance test which evaluates power of expression, proficiency in language , general awarencess, analytical and verbal reasoning skills and overall communication skills.
