Hi,

Before i start answering your question in detail let me explain to you what is a psychiatrist actually. A Psychiatrist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis , treatment and prevention of mental health and emotional problems. As they get extensive medical training, the psychiatrist understands the body's functions and the complex relationship between emotional illness and other medical illness.. The psychiatrist is thus the mental health professional and physician best qualified to distinguish between physical and psychological causes of both mental and physical distress. Psychiatrists are physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health.

Now about the working hours. The working hours of a Psychiatrist depends on many factors. First of all to start with is what kind of field they are in. They have many career opportunities. They work in a variety of settings including general and psychiatric hospitals, university medical centers, community agencies, courts and prisons, nursing homes, industry, government, military settings, schools and universities, rehabilitation programs , emergency rooms, hospices and many other places. So you can see for your self and understand how many hours they must be working. Each and every place has their own working hours and so the Psychiatrists work accordingly.

Almost half of the professional Psychiatrists in our country maintain private practice. Diversity and flexibility is the hallmark of a Psychiatrists career. Although some Psychiatrists prefer working only in one setting, others work in several areas. Like they combine private practice with hospital or community mental health center work.

It is very easy for practitioners to set their own work and time commitments according to their personal lifestyles and needs. As all races get affected by mental health psychiatry offers special opportunity for members of minority group. They can specialize in child and adolescent psychiatry , Addiction psychiatry, Forensic psychiatry etc.

Psychiatry is a very interesting field and more and more people are opting for it. Scope is increasing in this field because of the growing stress levels in daily lives of people.

I do not know whether you are all ready pursuing it or planning to get in to this field but let me tell you one thing that this field is very interesting and growing very fast. Apart from career this field gives you an opportunity to help people in a big way. You are not only earning through the institution but also helping so many people to grow in their lives by overcoming various problems which they face in their lives.

ALL THE BEST !!!!!!!!!!!

Hi There,

Firstly, please note that Psychiatrists are mental health professionals, who are basically Medical Graduates, and hence are allowed to administer medications to their client.

At the same time, as a Psychiatrists one is permitted to individually function on their own by setting up their own clinic.

But since India is still a little skeptical when it comes to discussing Mental health issues, that they would not mind visiting nursing homes or polyclinics or hospitals, since everything or rather all services are available under one roof, so no one would know about their visit to a Psychiatrists.

Please note that psychiatrists, these days work as a Visiting doctors and are associated with more than one clinic or hospitals.

In case of working hours, in case of their own clinics, generally, one client takes around 2 hours for the therapists. So generally their timings can range from 5 to 6 hours either morning or evening.
And if they are associated with other clinics, then generally clinics allocate time, which is generally 2 hours a day, may be alternate days or very day.

Hope this answers your query...
