The zoologist study the animals, their classification, physiology, distribution and their behavior. The working hours and need to work during night depends upon the nature of job. The job of a zoologist could be in school, colleges, research institutions, government laboratories, zoo, museum, forest department.

Technically speaking, the person holding a post graduate degree in zoology is known as zoologist.

The post graduate person will be eligible to get join as school teacher or in the research project in the universities and research institutions. In schools, the working hours are as per the government rules, Normally the working hours per day is 7-8 hours. In the research institutions the zoologist will join as Research Associate, Senior Research Fellow, junior research fellow, technical person. The working hours are here normally 8 hours per day. In research institutions, depending upon the type of research project, or the demand of a particular research aspect the working may be in night shift. This is required, if there is need to monitor the behavior during night or the zoologist has been assigned the field duties.

In field duties, the person has to work in forest, mountains, cold desert. Here person has to be physically fit and healthy.

Normally, during field visit, there is no time bound duty, the person can perform duty as per the requirement. There is full flexibility of time, but one has to take care the job assigned to him. If he or she has been assigned to study or look after the nocturnal animals, then one has to do duty during night shift.

If the zoologist, makes and entry as lecturer, assistant professor, assistant scientist in colleges, university, research institutes or governmental laboratory, then the working hours will be normally in the day, that is 7-8 hours. Because, here person will be involved in teaching and research. The research work may sometime require working during night to observe the animal or to catch the nocturnal animals for study purpose.

IN the zoo, the person is required to look after the animals during day and night, therefore, there is night shift duty.
