The only field of engineering that makes an individual technically equipped , while instilling management techniques is industrial engineering. Industrial engineering is all about designing / managing methods and procedures to increase productivity, quality and efficiency in manufacturing process.The increasing complexity of industrial operations and the expansion of automated process in factories and offices is contributing to the demand of industrial and production engineers.




JOB ROLES






  • As an industrial engineer , a person will be involved in designing better ,methods and facilities for manufacturing and services. He will study the various industrial processes involved, use mathematical model and computer simulation to devise new manufacturing systems that are more efficient.




  • Much of an industrial engineer's output is used by management for making decisions. The recommendations of industrial engineer may affect the size of a firm's profits, its labor relations, as well as its production costs. In many ways he is the bridge between management goals and operational performance.






  • One of major role played by an industrial engineer is automating a production process. He will first have to determine what aspect of production needs to automated and if it makes financial sense. As an industrial engineer , he will also decide which machine fit the requirements.






  • An industrial engineer must understand ergonomics and consider how the machines and work environment affect the worker. He is involved in designing workstations to reduce fatigue and prevent discomfort and work related injuries. He has to ensure that the placement of equipment, computers and keyboards is perfect right down to the height of desks and tables.






  • In actual plant design , an industrial engineer figures out which computer systems, machines and automated equipment's will be used in the design and manufacturing process. He has to determine the most effective layout for computers, equipment and offices such that it is flexible and easily maintainable. He is also responsible for developing wage and salary administration systems and job evaluation programs.






  • When new projects come up ,industrial engineer is involved in it from start to finish. Industrial engineers determine the suitability of locations for factories depending on the best combination of raw materials availability , transportation and costs.
