What benefits does graduating (Bcom) from Shri Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics have while doing CA? Is it convenient? What about attendance? Is it compulsory? Will it help me get articleship in BIG 4?

Perks of pursuing CA and Bcom from Narsee Monjee simultaneously? What are the added benefits? Or any other college for doing Bcom parallel to CA? I am expecting my best of four to be somewhere between 9%-98%

Dear Aspirant,

Thanks for approaching us at CareerGuide.com!

Are you doing BCom from NM College under NMIMS University or Mumbai University? If the BCom is under Mumbai University (which I would recommend), then any college will be fine, since the degree is awarded by the University and not the college. This does mean to say that college is not important. NM College is definitely a very good college and I recommend you to choose NM College if you are getting admission there.

Doing CA is different than studying for BCom course. For CA you require altogether different mindset, self study and focus. Doing CA and BCom should be in 75:25: ratio. That is 75% focus and study should be given for CA studies and 35% focus and studies should be for BCom.

Getting Big Four for articleship is not simple and you definitely have to be very good in CA studies and its understanding. So I would suggest you to firstly focus on creating a strong base of knowledge in CA studies which will make the way simple to get into the Big Four.

Attendance if NM College definitely is 75% compulsory as per the UGC rules.

Please do not give short cuts and underestimate the BCom studies, they are equally important and crucial. Having more than a First Class in BCom is anyways recommended.

Best wishes,

Dr. Anand Wadadekar

Hi there,

Interesting question.

Your question is just like the mindset of we Mubaikars.

We link college and jobs.
We think the name of the college is sufficient to land us into XYZ jobs etc.

What I mean here is that really speaking colleges do not matter. What matters is your percentage and the expertise you carry.
Hence attending college and by attending I mean, attending lectures and making notes, will be more helpful in the long run.

And as dr, above mentioned the distribution of time, to study CA and B.Com.
I would advise you to ideally follow that to be successful.
Since CA is in itself a course, which requires no back-end support, but still industry needs a Graduation degree, so for you a B.Com is equally important.

As far as securing an articleship in Big four companies are concerned, apart from being good with the CA concepts, you would need referrals. Mainly contacts will help you, getting in there.

So in short hardwork and being best in what you do is a perk for you towards yourself.

Wish you all the very best............
