Hi There,

As such I have always heard about a B.Sc in Nutrition and Dietetics, available to a student who is 12th Science or Home science background.

As such there are Diploma and certificate courses available from VLCC Institute.

But to be a dietitian one needs to have basic understanding of how the body system works, nutritional content of various foods and how they interact with the system and which type of diet fits which body type etc.

So knowledge about physiology is extremely important before one suggests diet to a person.

So before you opt for short term courses offered by Private institutes, please do meet the concerned person at the Institute and get a complete detailed knowledge regarding what the course would cover.

Hope this helps.

Wish you good luck...

Thanks for writing to www.careerguide.com.

There are graduate, post-graduate, diploma and certificate courses.

Graduate and post graduate Courses
BSc in Food and Nutrition, Nutrition and dietetics, clinical nutrition, dietetics and catering management
MSc/MPhil in Public Health Nutrition, nutrition and dietetic

Diploma and Certificate courses
Applied nutrition
Nutrition and dietetics
Food and nutrition
Nutrition and child care
Nutrition and health education
Nutritional therapy
Holistic nutrition

These courses are available in most home science colleges and agricultural universities. IGNOU offers distance learning courses on nutrition.

I would recommend you to go for clinical nutrition or applied nutrition course. Post-graduation in the public health nutrition and dietetics would add value to it, For private practice as well as academic career, PhD will add Dr. tag and may help you enhance your practice.

Hope this is helpful, Feel free to write back if you need further clarification.

All the best for your bright career!

Best Wishes,

Hi There,

As per my conversation, please find a list of Colleges offering
B.Sc Nutrition and Dietetics

B.Sc Homescience:

Please go through the lists and select on the basis of placements and other facilities you are looking out for.

Also another request would be to be open to move out and study further.

Hope this helps.

Wish you good luck....
