Professional courses and training in journalism is available at many universities in the country and also at many autonomous institutes specializing in media studies. Some of the media houses have set up their own schools of journalism.



Most of the courses in journalism are post graduate diploma courses or degree courses of one to two years duration for which graduates are eligible. Admission is usually on the basis of an entrance test which evaluates power of expression, proficiency in language, general awareness , analytical and verbal reasoning skills and overall communication skills.





Universities like the university of Delhi and University of Mumbai , Symbiosis international University etc are among those who are offering undergraduate degree course devoted to mass media or journalism and mass communication which focus on journalism. It is always strongly recommended to back up such undergraduate degree courses with a post graduate level course for better long term prospects.
