Hello

Thank you for choosing Mera career guide and writing to us. Why do you have to be tensed when you are already studying a lucrative ancient science subject - BAMS? This is an excellent degree that offers knowledge and practice with ancient medicinal science rooted from our ancestor's practices. It is highly recognisable both in India and abroad and lots of students fail to understand that this degree can offer exclusive career options. This may be one of the reasons why students flood to MBBS and not to this degree as much.

Ayurvedic Physician

Ayurvedic science and medicine is popular in India and lots of foreign countries also tend to get attracted towards this ancient medicinal practices. As an ayurvedic medicine graduate you can pursue the following options.
1. General practitioner - As a Doctor with a degree in BAMS, you will be able to work as a general practitioner. You can practice under a well trained ayurvedic practitioner initially and then get to start your own clinic. It is good to be a trainee for at least a year under a well trained specialist.

2. Pharmacist - As an ayurvedic pharmacist you can work at research and development departments of beauty companies. There are plenty of companies both in India and abroad that manufacture ayurvedic beauty products for both skin and hair. You can either work as a pharmacist at these companies or even work as a researcher, inventing new products at their research and development department.

3. Clinical research - If you cannot work in a company's research department, you can also work at private clinical research centres. These centres research on medicinal practices, uses and benefits and recommend the medicine/ product to companies. Companies can in turn buy the researched product and may give royalty to the clinic. Sometimes the practitioner who manufactures the product also holds the patent law for the product and also claim royalty when the product is sold. One good example is the Shahnaz Husain beauty products. These products are prepared at the private research clinic owned by Shahnaz Husain and they are marketed to the public.

4. Research abroad - You can work at research centres abroad especially at universities. Very few universities abroad have the ancient medicine research centre and you can work as a Research analyst at these centres. You can also work as a private licensed practitioner abroad and this depends on the country where you want to work.

5. Spa and health centre specialist - Finally you can be an ayurvedic consultant at spa and health care centres. You will have deep knowledge on ayurvedic aromas and will recommend the proper treatment for people who come into the centre to get cured for their physical ailments or even just a rejuvenation.

Hope this helps.
