Hi Saransh,

Good question, and I am sure you are aware of the answer itself.

Any field you see, options are there to work as a freelancer.

Only thing is one needs an in-detail knowledge about that particular work or technology.

Firstly let me begin, with where and in which department in a Paint company a paint technologists work:

  • Research and development: In research and development, one has to identify, evaluate and develop various technologies, formulate the paints that meet the requirements for the desired end application.
    • Quality assurance: He looks whether the product has met the needed requirements and is the product user friendly.
    • Production: Paint technologists employed in production department monitors and improves the efficiency in the process of production.
    • Manufacturing: A person working in the paint manufacturing company is responsible for the analysis of raw materials and finished products in the quality assurance department.
-Technical assistants/ executives who work on clients sites.
In technical services and marketing sector paint technologists help in identifying newer markets, promoting products by educating customers, explaining the benefits and right usage.

Now from the baove, only place where I see you fitting as a Freelancer is the technical department, whereby you can work as a dealer.
You can have your own Paint retail shop.

Thereby, you can guide customers about different paints available in the market, what is being used, how beneficial it would be, what technology is being used and so on.

Other than this if you looking out for any other role like a QA or production, then freelancing is not possible, unless you setup a Paint manufacturing Unit like Asian Paints, or you can opt for their franchisee too.

But before you venture out on your own, my advise would be to work in the industry, gain some vital experiences and then move on independently.

Hope this helps.

Wish you good luck.............
