Even though the pay scales may vary from place to place, the differences are not too many. As a trainee chef, one can earn Rs.10,000 to Rs.15,000 per month. As one gains experience of around 10 years, one can draw a salary of Rs.40,000 to Rs.50,000 per month in a five star deluxe hotel.

When one reaches the top and becomes executive chef one's salary can be anything between Rs.1,00,000 - Rs.2,00,000 per month. According to the ITC's latest report, the executive pastry chef at Maurya Sheraton earns a gross remuneration of Rs.52 Lakhs+ while the Chinese chef at Maurya Sheraton gets a package of Rs.50 Lakhs.

A chef is higher in hierarchy than a cook or a sous chef. The highest paid chef is the executive chef. The salary of an executive chef ranges between INR 20,000 to INR 200,000 per month or even more depending on the place of employment and experience.

Salaries for chefs are the highest in the Taj Group. In India, Taj Group has sixty hotels spread across forty two locations.
