Hi Omi,

Yes. you are eligible to study either a B.Sc CS or B.Sc IT.

But because of your 2 years gap, you may have to appear for a Bridge course tests, whereby this exam would tests your current knowledge on the subjects you have studied 2 years back and especially Math.

For more information, you can contact your college administration staffs or visit Mumbai University.

As far as the difference between a B.Sc it and B.Sc Computer Science is concerned.
Please note that both the jobs are computer related with subtle differences and job roles. To draw a line between both the fields is actually impossible.

But just to give you a better understanding, please note:

  • B.Sc CS: :
computer science is the study of computers, their design, and their uses for computation, data processing, and systems control. Computer Science involves the design and development of all types of usable hardware and software, operating systems, and interactive games and apps. They make use of mathematical algorithms, the understanding of computer theory, and writing code to generate the latest in computer technology. They are focused with the theory of computational applications. That means they understand the "why" behind computer programs. Computer scientists are generally concerned with software, operating systems and implementation.

  • B.Sc IT: Information Technology (IT) involves the development, maintenance, and use of computer systems, software, and networks for the processing and distribution of data. IT professionals apply these computer programs to solve business problems. Essentially, they use the programs created by computer scientists and focus on the practical application of computers in everyday life. They may help to explain to a client how to solve a technology issue or work with businesses to implement new technology plans that meet their needs.

So cutting the long theory short, A Computer Science Graduate is the one who is into designing a Hardware and once it is in the market, the IT professionals helps in troubleshooting.

Hope this makes the difference clear.

Wish you good luck...........

Dear Aspirant,

Do keep a Doctor's certificate handy in case it is needed.

You can definitely get admission into BSc IT or BSc Computer Science.

Computer Science is the mother of Computer Engineering, IT and Systems. Therefore BSc Computer Science is valued more than IT or Computer Engineering. Further MSc in Computer Science is the best to do for long term benefit.

IT would make you make and learn computer applications and languages, programming.
Computer Science would make you learn the science behind computers, software development, testing.

MS Office is IT and Windows is Computer Science.

Choosing one of them will depend on what and where exactly you wish to go for long term.

Best wishes
