Hello,

Thanks for approaching us at CareerGuide.com!!!

After the completion of engineering degree (any discipline ) a candidate may appear in GATE examination and after qualifying GATE candidate can apply for ME(Mater of engineering) and M Tech(Master of Technology) which is "post graduation degree in engineering".

Different institute provide different degree such as ME or MTech. Although in most places they are considered equivalent.

If the candidate want to pursue post graduation in engineering from abroad known as MS (Master of Science) then he or she may appear in GRE test (Graduate Record Test) .Mainly after clearing GRE exam candidate can take admission in US universities and Universities of English speaking countries.

Information regarding all the above mentioned examination is available in internet.

Hopefully this discussion is beneficial for you and if you want to discuss in detail feel free to contact me.......best wishes from my side.............

Hello

Thank you for contacting we counsellors at CareerGuide.com I am happy that you arrived at a trusting platform where we can help you today. I see you want to study Master of Engineering. May I ask you two questions? To study Master of Engineering, you should have already studied Bachelor of Engineering. SO, are you currently studying a Bachelor in Engineering or have studied in the past? Secondly, what is the branch of Engineering you are in. There are many branches like Mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronic engineering, mechatronics, chemical engineering and so on.

I see you want to study a Master of Engineering. I am guiding you in general and you can apply it to the subject of your study okay? Master of Engineering in India requires you to take Gate exam if you are focusing on IIT's only. You should take the GATE exam that the IIT ask for and achieve high score and send the scores with your study application. If you are not focusing on IIT's then you should check if the other universities run their own tests and accordingly you should do those exams and get admitted for Masters in India.

But in abroad, the case is different. You need to have a Bachelor of Engineering from India and it should be a minimum of four year degree. If you are focusing Abroad, you should do two tests.
1. GRE general test
2. IELTS or TOEFL test
You should do the GRE test to your ability in subjects you already studied and you should do either IELTS/TOEFL test to prove your English language ability. Master of Engineering in USA are not research based but it is a two year program.

In UK, you can certainly apply for Master of Engineering and again this is not a research based. they call it a taught level Masters degree program in Engineering. There are research level master of Engineering in UK too and it is called MEng with research. Very few universities run this program and you need to check if your subject has this research level study. But in general it is not a resaerch program in UK. For UK, you should have a BE from India and you should complete IELTS test with a minimum of 6.5 or 7.0 overall.

Germany has ME courses too and they are also taught level and not research level. You only need IELTS test to apply for Germany.

Singapore has taught level ME and not research level. You need GRE/GMAT and IELTS.

Australia has both taught and research level ME and you need only IELTS test to apply.

All the best.

Hello

Thank you for choosing CareerGuide.com and writing to us. I appreciate your interest in studying further at a Masters level. Let me first explain on how to study M.Eng. in India and then explain on studying abroad for a Masters level. As you may know, M.Eng. is a master of Engineering discipline next to Bachelors of Engineering degree like the B.Eng. So students who complete B.Eng. or the B.Tech usually choose to study M.Eng. and this is one of the most common routes. Studying M.Eng. in India or abroad typically varies and M.Eng. isnot a research based course.

Degrees likeM. Res. (Masters by Research); MPhil (Master of Philosophy); D.Sc. (Doctor of SocialSciences); D.Ed. (Doctor of Education);D. Litt. (Doctor of Literature) and PhD (Doctor of Philosophy)are only research based study.

Mechanical Engineer

As said, in general MSc or the M.Eng. are not research based and they are known as Taught masters courses. In these courses you will berequired to follow some course works that comprise about 75% of the degree. Along with this you will have to do a mini project or mini research project that accounts for 25%. This mini project is known as 'Dissertation' at universities around the globe. Some universities will have 75% coursework 25% dissertation and some will have 70% coursework and 30% dissertation. However, they are all together known as taught masters courses. These taught masters courses are available anywhere around the world.

If you want to study M.Eng. in India, then you should know in what subject you want to study and also think of where you want to study. If you would like to study at any of the IIT's in India, then you need to appear for GATE exam. This GATE exam will qualify you with a rank against students appearing all over India. With this rank, you can appear for counselling at IIT's. If you have a high rank in GATE, you can be admitted at IIT's. If you want to study anywhere else in India apart from the IIT's then you should appear for the individual entrance test run by the college where you want to study. If you have scored above 60% as minimum then you can be admitted for M.Eng. in India.

If you want to study abroad for M.Eng, then please be aware that not all foreign universities will offer you M.Eng. as most of them offer it as M.Sc. only. However both are almost the same. But very few USA, UK, Singapore and Australian universities offer M.Eng. To study abroad, in USA/ Canada/ Singapore you need to appear for GRE and TOEFL exam.

If you want to study either in the UK or Australia IELTS exam is alone enough. With your school scores, college scores and the required competitive exam scores you are eligible to send in your study application abroad. Hope this helps. All the very best.
