Hi There,

I am sure you have heard about Nano technology, whereby technology is merged with Science to create miracles in all respective field right from Automobiles to medicines to Agriculture

Speaking about Nano Biotechnology, it is basically where biology meets technology.
As you know Biotechnology is a field whereby Science helps creating instruments required for biological purposes or interventions.

As such speaking of biology, it is being used in may subfields right from Medicines to genes to molecular Sciences etc.

Thus Nano Biotechnology consists of a Research in these fields whereby scientists through Research helps in developing interventions in these fields.
Basically applying Nanotools to these fields and bring out interventions in the medical or biology field.
eg.drug delivery system and or Gene Therapy are a part of Nano biotechnology.

Please note this is a complete Research oriented field.

As far as the scope is concerned, these days as everything is becoming quick and fast paced and at the same time becoming smaller and smaller and due to the advance in the medical field, Research in this field is gaining momentum daily.

Right from the CT scan machine to the Pacemaker to finding root cause through understanding of the genes, finding solutions to sickness and other human issues through molecular study is all a thanks to Research in Nano Biotechnology.
So definitely you have scope in any industry right from Hospitals to laboratories, to Multi nationals to Pharma companies.
Hope this helps.
Wish you good luck...

Hi Avika,

This is very interesting and unique career option .here is some information related to Nano -biotechnology .

The nano-biotechnology is one of the strategic and dominant technologies at the present time. Nanotechnology has almost endless string of applications in biotechnology, biology and biomedicine. Nano biotechnology has several commercial applications in advanced pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and diagnostics. Soon, there will be orally applicable insulin and artificial joints made from nanoparticulate materials as well low-calorie foods with nanoparticulate taste enhancers. Nanobiotechnology presents a promising R&D frontier with a tremendous future impact in the drug delivery, gene therapy, nano-TAS, nanoscale bioprocesses, etc.

Career opportunities

A number of career options are available in nanotechnology. These include:

  • Drug delivery: Highly porous nano-materials are ideal for controlled
drug delivery systems. It significantly enhances the administration
and efficacy of the drugs due to reduced sized of nano-drug particles
  • Gene therapy: Significant advances in nanotechnology will soon make
the gene therapy simple and cost effective
  • Nano biosensors: These are used in the detection of chemical
(pollutants) and biological threats. The chip-sized bio-devices
revolutionized the detection and management of diseases.
  • Nano-total analysis systems (nano-TAS):"Nano Labs-on-chips,"
profoundly change the current practice in clinical diagnostics,
genome sequencing, environmental monitoring, food safety and other
    areas of the public interest.
  • Nanoscale bioprocesses for bioremediation: Nanoscale scavengers are
able to capture heavy metals in contaminated sites and break down
    toxic substances
  • Nanobiotech-Pharma: It is dedicated to improving human longevity and
quality of life through the diagnosis and treatment of diseases
associated with pathological calcification, inflammation and
infections.Education and research: in Universities and other
    institutes.
  • Marketing of nanoBiotech products.Setting up small scale nanobiotech
    companies.Consultancy.
