A candidate can pursue BBA in 3 years if he/she goes for full-time course or 3-4 years if he/she goes for part-time or correspondence. The best part about this course is that a student of any stream in class 12th can apply for it.

BBA is not subject specific and a student can choose any number of combinations of subjects, apart from 1-2 Compulsory Subjects. Nowadays, some reputed institutes offer specialization in various areas.

The best part about this course is that a student of any stream in class 12th can apply for it. Here the main question comes into play that BBA a business oriented program, it is related to commerce, so does a student of commerce stream has some added advantage? The answer for this totally depends upon the capability and interest of a candidate. Yes, a commerce student has the advantage of having the knowledge of some complex subjects like accounting.

The main disadvantage with the arts/humanitiesstudents is that they don’t study maths till 12th standard. Mathematics is the core subject in all the 3 years of graduation in BBA. In fact, in some institutes maths is compulsory subject to sit in the entrance exam. University of Delhi and NarseeMonjeecollege, Mumbai are some reputed institutions where maths is a compulsory subject during entrance. There is still some hope for the ones who didn’t opt mathematics in class 11th and 12th. There are some reputed institutions which offer BBA program even to non maths students. Here's a list of some of them-

  • Christ University, Bangalore
  • Amity University, Noida
  • IIM Indore's IPM course
  • Symbiosis, Pune
  • UPES, Dehradun
  • Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi
  • KIIT, Bhubaneswar
  • Manipal University, Jaipur
  • JD Birla Institute, Kolkata
  • Alliance University, Bangalore

Nowlet me state some hurdlesthat you may face during BBA program if you are a humanities student:

  • Accountancy: This subject is purely based on 11th and 12thcommerce, you might have to put some extra efforts like taking coaching, though it wouldn’t be that difficult.
  • Terms of business: You might have come across some business terms in day to day life but you will be introduced to some new terms that may give you some tough time.
  • Economics: Micro and macro economics are the backbone of BBA in first year. Economics may seem to be a tough job for you.

So these aspects may also be considered as the advantages that a commerce student have over arts student while doing BBA. Commerce student has to give less time to study some subjects as they are already clear with their basics. First year of college is pretty easy for them as most of the subjects are same as they have studied in school.

Arts student has to give very hard efforts in understanding some subjects which a commerce student may understand within minutes.

Nothing is impossible to do in this world. Even a humanities student can pass BBA with flying colours. Here are some tips for arts students who are pursuing BBA:

  1. In the first year you have to study more than the students of commerce stream as they have already studied the subjects before.
  2. You must work hard in mathematics and statistics. You may take coaching for the same.
  3. Do study financial accounting from the starting.
  4. Bunking classes is a bad idea for you.
  5. Do revise what you learn in class the same day.

There are two sides of everything. Till now we were talking about the demerits of have humanities till class 12th for students pursuing BBA but there is a silver lining for them too. A student of humanities can do great when Law subjects come into play. So law subjects act as advantage for them.

BBA program is a very interesting course. It is not very tough but yes, as I stated before, a commerce student may definitely enjoy some advantages. If you are a hardworking and sincere student then this course is not at all a tough call for you. Go ahead with confidence, you will do wonders and get placed into exceptionally good companies.
