Hello My Dear...

I liked your question and I am glad that you approached CareerGuide.com for seeking clarification to this good and genuine query. I am sure that you will benefit from the views of the experts here.

Cost Accountant is one of the reputed and honoured professionals in the finance and business field. In India, a person can become a Cost Accountant by primarily qualifying in all the examinations of The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of India (CMA). Previously this Institute was called as The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI).

Chief Cost Accountant / Head Costing / GM Costing, etc are designation which one can see in the industry but these are not acquired by people by just qualifying the CMA examinations. These positions can be acquired in combination of CMA qualification and work experience of atleast 10 years.

To be called as a Cost Accountant, a person needs to pass all the examinations (foundation, intermediate and final) conducted by the CMA Institute and also complete the internship period. Once these both are done, a person can then apply for membership to CMA Institute and a License (Associate) is granted to the qualified person. Only after this, that particular person can write 'CMA' word before his / her name as a qualification and not other wise.

Eligibility to become a Cost Accountant is qualification and work experience as mentioned above. However to be called as a CMA one has to be a Licentiate Holder of the CMA Institute to begin with.

Cost Accountancy is an excellent and ever green subject and industry is always in demand of this professional. The CAM degree is authorised and recognised by Govt. of India.

I hope I could answer and clarify on your query.

Do get back to us Dear... for any other clarifcations, etc.

Best Luck
