The environmental engineering course is open to students who have passed plus two/ equivalent with physics, chemistry and mathematics. In most cases, admission to engineering degree programmes is through an engineering entrance test. The career opportunities in this field are immense today and the scope is widening in India as well as abroad. The various career options for environmental engineers are :-

Engineers- develop and modify systems to keep environment clean and safe for living. Jobs are available in pollution control units, water and sewage treatment plants, public health engineering departments etc
.
Research officers/ Project officers/ Consultants- Those who have academic excellence in this field may work as project officer , research officer or as consultant. They are concerned with educating masses and making them aware of natural environment and look after specified research project relating to environmental issues.
Scientists- Involved in toxicity testing and evaluation of industrial chemicals and are responsible for increasing the efficiency of pollution control systems.
Teaching- Those who have a post graduate degree in the field of environmental science and with a doctoral work may take up teaching profession.
Ecologists- Ecologists run experimental farms and laboratories under natural and artificial conditions to watch effects of climatic conditions on crops, plants , animals etc.
