Food technology is the study of manufacture , storage , preservation , canning , packaging and distribution of food products. It is the application of food science in manufacturing safe , delicious and nutritious food items. Food technologists are responsible for examining the food, checking for contamination and adulteration and certifing its nutrional values. They are responsible for developing new products and identifying new processes and applications. They are responsible for takimng care of quality controlprocedure at the working place from raw material stage to the finshed product stage . To ecel in this profession one needs to have scientific bend of mind, excellent power of observation and concentration , interest in technological and scientific development . Food technologists are mainly hired by food processing companies to work for them in diffrent departments like production, quality assurance, research and development etc.



After 12th with PCM/ PCB , astudent can enroll for an undergraduate course siuc as B.Tech/ Be Food Technology , B,.Sc Food Technology , B.Sc Food Science , Nutrition and Food Quality Control.

The food technologist involved in food processing of food stuffs. The person is known as food technologist after passing four year degree program in Food Science and Technology. There are many universities and institutions which offer this course as Bachelor in Food Technology, Bachelor in Food Science and Technology and Bachelor in Food and Nutrition (three year degree program).



The basic qualification to get admission in B.Tch Food Technology or B.Tech in Food Science and Technology is 12 class with science subjects PCB / PCM. The minimum requirement of general category is 60 %, some university allow 55%. for general category.

There are many institutes which offer this B.Tech degree in Food Technology or Food Science and Technology.

Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore. This is one of the premier institute in India and offers post graduate courses in Food Technology (M.Sc Food Technology). The minimum marks required for general category is 55% in graduation with subjects like B.Sc/B.Tech Agriculture, horticulture, engineering, technology and Food technology / Food Sciences.

Amity Institute of Food Technology, Amity University, Noida, offers B.Tech and M.Tech degree in Food Technology

National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management, Sonipat, Haryana. Offers B.Tech, M.Tech, and Ph.D degree in Food technology.

Technically speaking a person is a Food Technologist after obtaining a Post Graduate degree in Food Technology. The person who obtain Bachelor degree in Food Science or Food and Nutrition, go for post graduate degree in Food Science or Food Science and Technology are also known as Food Technologist.



Let me tell you something about the nature of job of a Food Technologist for more clarity;

The food technologist is trained to apply scientific knowledge of Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Engineering to the processing of Food stuffs, quality control, storage and research etc.

Food Technologist also called as Food Scientists, study the physical, chemical biological composition of food. They are engaged in processing of food stuffs, preserving and packaging and search ways for enhancing flavors, taste and nutritional values of food stuffs.
