Hotel management courses are usually of three years duration leading to the grant of diploma/ degree , though some degree courses are also of four years duration. The syllabus covers administration and organization of the industry, personnel and organization behaviour, knowledge of a foreign language, economics, principles of management , applied science, front office operations, relevant law and general aspects of tourism and hotel business, food and beverage service, staff management and organization, housekeeping, basics of cookery covering India, continental, chinese, french, mexican and other varieties of cuisines. The National council for hotel management and catering technology and Indira Gandhi National Open University , New Delhi offer the 3 years BSc in Hospitality & Hotel Administration at Institutes of hotel management located across the country. NCHMCT conducts the joint entrance examination for admission to the BSc in hospitality and hotel administration . The applicants should have completed the plus two or equivalent examination successfully in any academic or vocational stream with English as a compulsory subject. The major private hotel chains - oberoi, taj, apeejay, kohinoor , welcomgroup , jaypee etc have also set up their won schools of hotel management. Hotel management institutes in the private sector conduct separate admission tests, group discussions and interview as part of the selection process.
