Professional courses in photography vary in duration from 3 months to 4 years. There are certificate, and diploma courses offered at polyttechnics, universities , industrial training institutes and in may prvate institutes. Photography may be part of the course in mass communication and is also as abracnch of specialization in some art colleges in the Bachelor of Fine Arts programme.
Spme institiyes and universities specify minimum eligibility while others prefer to train interested and motivated people with an aptitude for photography. PITIs and polytechnics 12th or equivalent level of education. Training in photgraphy makes an indivudual familiar with all technicalities such as right exposure, height, angles, filters, lenses , type of film to used for diffrent types of photogrpahs and the developing and printing process. Motion picture photogrpah or cinematography rquires specialized training which is offered some of the best institutes in India After getting required training and exposure photographers have various options such working in a studio or advertising agencies, fashion houses, research instutes and industries , news[papers , magazines, news bureaus, publicity departmemts and tourist developmwnt corporations. The most romising branches are advertising and press photography. Need for electronic images for areas such as internet and multimedia is increasing the demand for photographers

. To get established in the profession , one requires aptitude, interest, self confidence along with technical training
