A veterinarian is a physician for animals and apractitionerofveterinarymedicine. The aim ofveterinaryeducation is to produceveterinariancapable of using their skills to improve association of humans and animals by making the later free from their sufferings and disease. To be a veterinarian one should have genuine love for animals , aptitude and interest in the biological sciences, ability to instill confidence in animals , physical stamina, power of observation,adaptabilityand ability for team work

A candidate for the admission to veterinary course must have obtained not less than 50% of the aggregate marks in English, physics. chemistry and biology
. Veterinary council of India conducts an all India Common Entrance Examination for filling up of 15% of the total no. of seats in each of veterinary colleges of states where the Veterinary Council Act, 1984 extends. This entrance examination is being held in the month of May each year. The duration of the undergraduate course is five years including compulsory internship of six months duration.
