Oceanography is the study of seas, its coastline, shelves and the ocean bed. It is an interdisciplinary science which is broadly divided into physical oceanography, chemical oceanography, geological oceanogrpahy and marine biology. Increased awareness regarding marine resources and their potential has created ademand for ocean specialist. A wide range of environmental services are required in India to support increasing marine activities including weather forecasting, the survey charting of coastal waters and continental shevles, maintaining archives on marine data, geophysical investigations and so on. To pursue a career in oceanography astudent has to complete 12th with physics, chemistry and biology or maths. Thereafter an aspirant can seek admission in B.Sc Marine Sciences/ Geology/ Botany/ Microbiology or Biochemistry.
