The division of medical science that concerns the anatomy as well as physiology of the eye is known as ophthalmology. The field also deals with the diseases that might affect the eye, the proper treatment required and preventive methods,. A professional of this field is known as ophthalmologist. It is a great career option for males and females for those who wish to have a family life and for those who want to dedicate their life to medicine. It is a dynamic branch with alot of opportunities for research if one is academically inclined. There are post graduate degree ( MD and MS) and two years postgraduate diploma programme are available in ophthalmology to MBBS graduate who complete the compulsory internship as well. Admission into these course offered by medical colleges run by the union and state governments are made through the All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination.Several institutes in India offer courses in ophthalmology.
