The starting salary level differs a lot and varies on multiple factors such as:




1. location of the job (where you will be working, it is more in Bangalore, Chennai and less in Delhi-NCR and hyderabad)


2. company where you are applying


3. your roles and responsibilities


4. tools knowledge


5. need/urgency with company


6. company domain (companies in networking, telecom, and embedded world offer more salary as compared to others)




it also depends on:



1. job title (API/SDK writer get more salary as compared to normal technical writers)


2. your past experience, if you are from tec support background, chances are yo will get higher starting salary as compared to your peers.




It can vary from 2.00 - 5.00 lakhs (INR) per annum. Average starting salary as per STC India survey of year 2012 is 2.6 lakhs.For more details, you can refer to the various salary surveys of STC-India.

Engineers, Scientists, or Other professionals may also produce Technical Writing, but often hand it off to a professional technical writer for developmental editing, proofreading, editing and formatting.

Skills Sets:
In addtion to solid research, language, writing and Revision Skills, a technical writer may have skills in:
1. Information Design
2. Information Architecture
3. Training Material Development
4. Illustration / Graphic Design
5. Website Design Management
6. Indexing
7. Localization/ Technical Translation
8. User Interfaces
9. Business Analysis

A Technical Writer may apply their skills in the procustion of non-technical content, for example, writing high-level consumer information.

The Average pay for Technical Writer is 25L to 30K per month as a fresher. Most people with this job move on to other positions after 10 years in this career. Experience strongly influences income for this job. The highest paying skills associated with this jobs are FrameMaker, Adobe Acrobat, RoboHelp.
