In major banks, each employee is specialized in any of the following roles:-

Corporate Banking - Deals in transcting business with big compnaies and government agencies.

Retail Banking - Deals with deposits, withdrawals, transfer of money , exchange of forein currenc , issue of traveler's cheques etc.

Personal Banking- Deals with loans, mortgages, credits, insurance policies and pensions



Merchant Banking - work in doing business with institutional investors, international finance and public issue management . Merchant banking involved dealing with investment securities, international funds and other such things. To offer advise to corporate clients on capital structure decisions, pub;ic issue management , underwriting , raising money through publi issues and from overseas market etc are some of the main functions of merchant banking.

Investment banking- Securitiesm underwriting , marketing and involvement in mergers, acquistions and restructuring and financial activities are covered under investment banking.

Rural Banking- includes taking care of the banking and credit needs of people residing in the rural areas.

Public sector banks mainly recruits graduates for clerical and probationary officer position on the basis of all india level examination. Graduates from any stream can enter into this service by qualifying exam conducted by banks. However private/ multinbational banks prefer MBAs, CAs etc at junior positions through campus recruitments.
