Hi Kundan,
After your M.A. Economics, please appear for UGC - NET examination and you have to crack it.
Once you crack NET, you become eligible to appear for Ph.D. from any Public Or Private University in India.
Here, the most important thing is that it's good to do it from Public University but as far as Private University is concerned, look for UGC NAAC's "A" graded Universities. Otherwise your Ph.D. would be considered as a peace of paper.
Also please check MHRD's guidelines regularly for Ph.D. as our holy system keeps changing it very frequently.

To pursue a PhD in economics, you must hold a Masters in Economics. If you have cleared the NET exam, then you are eligible to teach as an assistant professor. If you also hold JRF, then you will get a stipend from UGC if you have taken admission in M.Phil or PhD. Otherwise, you will get stipend from the concerned department or University. But generally, candidates holding NET JRF are preferred.
