A lot depends on your field of interest but there are few things that you should know and accordingly learn a particular language. Here's the list of few programming languages:

Java: Java is a full object oriented language and has cross platform compatibility. Since Android applications are written in Java also, if you can make an Android app you can make a lot of money. A variety of enterprise level java jobs are also available for you.

C/C++: These basic and essential languages will always be in demand and is often an important criteria in companies' selection tests. The game industry has plenty of opportunities for C/C++ programmers. C++ which is basically an enhanced version of C is often used across the industry, including Windows software.

C#: C sharp is a general purpose object oriented language and has decent performance. It's a fun language for beginners, however relying totally on it for a job is not advisable. But it's good to diversify your skills in Visual Basic and mobile development.

Objective-C: This is the Apple Mac language upon which most OSX and iOS applications are built. Therefore there's huge scope of money making in the app developer world. This is also an extended version of C.

Remember that although companies do test your programming skills while recruiting but a lot of focus is given to the algorithms and data structure. It is therefore advisable to have strong basic understanding of these two subjects.
