1. Recognize skills, interest and passion: As mentioned by career expert, first requirement to pursue career in fashion designing is to identify your skills, interest and passion. For this, psychometric assessment from www.careerguide.com would be useful.

Skills set for Fashion Designing Industry:
- drawing skills
- an eye for colour, texture and shape.
- an understanding of the fabrics and its creative use.
- sound technical skills (such as pattern cutting, sewing, use of computer design softwares etc.).
- ability to understand fashion trend and market demand
- understand people's requirement and customer management.

Following are courses offered by Home Science Colleges, institutions and colleges:

Graduation
Post Graduate Diploma
Post-graduation
Doctorate

2. Enhance knowledge and skills: There are various courses in the field of fashion designing, management and entrepreneurship. You may pursue most relevant course for your professional development.

Once you take decision to go for fashion designing, based on your current education status, you can pursue graduation or post graduation. If can study upto doctorate level (PhD).

If you have experience working in the fashion industry and want to become entrepreneur then you can do post graduate diploma either in fashion designing or entrepreneurship from UGC recognized institutions/colleges.

3. Start working in the fashion designing: Once you have knowledge and skills for the fashion designing, you can work in the same industry. Your work experience will help you further sharpen your knowledge and skills.

4. Start your own business: After significant work experience (minimum 2 years) and having adequate market understanding, you can start your own business. You may pursue short term courses on entrepreneurship or take help of consultants who help you develop business plan and set up business. Many motivational trainers/corporate consultant/management consultant offer such services.
