There are a number of things that you need to learn as textile engineer so that you can succeed in this career. Below is the list of those things that you can learn and work on so that you can be effective in this profession:


1. The textile engineers need to work on the design part so that they can design the nice fabrics and show their creativity in that. They also have to consider the material properties and the various aspects of the production before designing itself so that the right design could be prepared.

2. A textile engineer has to have the understanding of the production processes in the textile industry and therefore they should learn about them as soon as possible. The various stages of production processes, which machines and techniques are to be used and what all are the people involved in it along with their specific roles, the textile engineers need to have the understanding of all of that.

3. The textile engineers need to be aware about the importance of the team and interpersonal skills. they do not have to work separately but as a part of teams. They have to coordinate with a large number of people during the designing and production stage. They need to make sure that all the processes are right on track. Therefore they need to be able to deliver their best work while working in a team and should be able to help and assist their team mates as well.


4. The role of communication skills is also very important for any fresh graduate of textile engineering if he or she is looking for any job. The textile engineers have to interact with a number of people including the management officials, the other engineers, technicians and even the workers. The textile engineers should be able to communicate their thoughts and ideas really well so that they can be effective in all the things that they do. The importance of good communication skills is huge and is tested during the job interview as well.

The Indian Textile Industry boasts of having an overwhelming presence in the economy of the country. The industry plays pivotal role through its contribution to industrial output, employment generation, and export earnings of the country. Currently, it contributes about 14% to industrial production, 4% to the GDP and 17% to the country's export earnings. Notably, it provides employment to over 35 million people. And with the decentralization of power loom/ hosiery and knitting sectors, and new techniques to produce a a variety of products to suit different market sections, there is a huge demand for trained professionals in the textile and apparel industry.



For the growth of the industry, the Indian Ministry of
Textiles believes that there is a strong need to focus on aspects like product development, CAD to develop designing capabilities, investment in trend forecasting to enable growth of industry.

The growth opportunities exists in areas including medica textile,construction textile, packaging textile, baby diapers, home textiles, blankets, bed, toilet and kitchen linen, curtaines, drapes, interior blinds, furnishing artciles, sacks and bags, tarpaulin, sail, tent, and camping goods.

How do i get there?
One can enter the fiels after doing Diploma or Degree level program in the textile and apparel or related subjects like merchandising, fashion designing, textile retailing, product management and the like. The course duration can range from 1 year to four to five years depending upon opted program level.

Students needs to understand the industry from the scratch and then they can jump on to the specialzed levels The Master's programs are specially designed to prepare students to meet the challenges of design-driven industries through modules in manufacturing, merchandising, wholesaling and retailing. Students learn aspects like innovative problem solving, product development, and managerial strategies that incorporate the application of new technologies.

Career Opportunities:
Graduates can have opportunities in production development and management, retail management, apparel designing, visual merchandising, technical designing, fashion writing and editing, quality control, theatrical costuming.

Other related fields and career titles could include operations manager, apparel sales representative, pattern meker, product developer, fashion buyer, fashion consultant, textile research scientist, store manager, quality assurance evaluator, costume designer and many more.
