The choice of study is completely yours.

Firstly gauge your own abilities and your determination to do engineering.
Are you sure that you will clear the engineering entrance exams ( All India and state level), not just the exam, but clear with a score that would give you an easy entrance to all colleges.

Also please note that don't take diploma as a child's play. It is more tougher than a degree course.
Since diploma courses are industry oriented, meaning they give you more of practical exposure and they prepare you to secure a job after you get your diploma degree.
Also diploma is an easy entrance to the 2nd year of engineering degree course. But it is purely based on your score and the specializations you would opt for.

You now would have to take a decision. But if you are not very sure to clear the entrance exams and engineering is something you wish to do, then diploma is a very good option.

Please before enrolling for a course, get in touch with engineering students both studying diploma and degree courses to get a fair idea.
Also speak to engineering graduates who are currently employed, it will give you a proper understranding of the work environment and its demands.

Choose wisely....

Wish you all the very best..............
