A medical degree is never trouble-free. It is to a certain extent much more complicated in comparison to other career fields. MBBS stands for bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery. It is an undergraduate degree in the medical field. The period of this whole course is 5 years. In these 5 years, 1 year is for an internship which is obligatory. Students from science stream can go for this degree. The basic subjects taught are physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, anatomy, pharmacology and pathology.

Students should have good stamina, along with that they should be patience, should have the ability to work in a team and should be responsible for making their career in MBBS. There are many colleges in Delhi to pursue MBBS. Delhi is well known for its quality in education. Some of the best colleges are:

  • All India institutes of medical sciences: AIIMS, mostly everyone has heard this name. AIIMS is also referred to as Mecca of medicines. This is one of the best colleges in the medical Its infrastructure is amazing. There is no quality compromise in food. Most important, placements are great.

  • Maulana Azad Medical College: This is a government college. The best part of this college is its faculty. This college offers many courses. Some of them are, MBBS, post graduate degree of MS etc. it is affiliated to the University of Delhi.
  • Lady Harding Medical College: It is one of the good colleges in the medical field in Delhi. It trains women entirely. The campus is good; everything is there on its campus, in fact, extracurricular activities are also there.
  • Jamia Hamdard University: this university allots living to both students and faculty. This college is ranked among the best colleges for medical by various magazines.
  • University College of Medical Science: this college offers medical and paramedical courses. It is very well known for its quality research.
  • Vallahbhai Patel Chest Institute: this institute is for research, teaching and taking care of patients. It is north campus and has everything which is important for student’s academics.
  • Army College of Medical Science: this college has an affiliation from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. Here also the admission is through NEET and they take 100 students annually.
  • Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital: it is affiliated to Delhi University. Here all the medical facilities are free of charge for the public.
  • Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College: this college is also affiliated to the University of Delhi. This college has 28 departments. Also, practical training is given to students.

Getting admission to Medical College:

To seek admission in medical colleges, students have to qualify NEET examination. This exam includes physics, chemistry, zoology and botany. The syllabus is from 12th class. There are 180 questions in all, 45 questions from each subject. Questions are in the form of MCQ. 4 options are given and students have to tick the most appropriate answer. Candidates must score at least 50% if they belong to general category and 40% if belonging to SC/ST and OBC category.

Procedure is like first students have to clear the NEET exam, then merit list comes out and at last counselling session takes place. Admission at UCMS is based on the merit list of candidates. All categories are given this opportunity. This list is prepared only on the basis of Delhi students. There are 150 seats in total out of which 85% of total seats are for Delhi students, 15% are filled through the NEET examination, for OBC it is 27%, SC, it is 17% and for ST it is 7.5%. If the seats are left by any chance then other students who are not from Delhi, get this chance. Counselling is done on the basis of the score secured in NEET exam for the medical students. In a counselling session, students are informed about the various courses, which are available. Seats are then allotted to students in a counselling session after that student have to bring important documents, admit card, mark sheet etc to complete the procedure for admission.

Who can apply?

  • Students should be of Indian nationality.
  • Their age should be 17 years.
  • Students should have secured at least 50% marks in class 12th.
